ABOUT Manjot

Manjot Bains is freelance writer and communications consultant with over fifteen years of professional experience collaborating and working with non-profits, government and corporations. Her practice focuses on issues management, communications strategy and planning, and creative writing, all with an anti-racism and anti-oppression lens.

Manjot’s creative writing has appeared in a number of corporate, online and creative publications, including Geist Magazine and Huffington Post. In 2010, Manjot co-founded jugnistyle.com, a South Asian arts, culture and fashion magazine. As editor of Jugni Style, she interviewed and wrote a number of short and long-form profiles of interesting people and topics, and was also producer of The Nameless Collective Podcast, which was featured on CBC Radio, Walrus Magazine and Vancouver Magazine.

Manjot’s 2019 essay on systemic racism was one of three stories from Huff Post Canada to win the RTDNA Canada - Sam Ross Award for Opinion and Commentary 2020.

Manjot is a former board member of the BC Arts Council and Indian Summer Arts Society, and a past member of the City of Vancouver Multiculturalism Advisory Committee (2012-2014). Manjot holds a BA Honours in Communication from Simon Fraser University, and has spoken on a number of podcasts, panels and to media on issues of anti-racism, representation and systemic racism.
